Peter Comino

Director

 

Peter Comino is the Managing Director of Comino Management Services Pty Ltd. He graduated as a Mechanical Engineer with honours from the University of Queensland in 1981. Prior to consulting to industry he spent 17 years working in the coal mining and sugar milling industries.

During 15 years with the Arco Coal Company, Peter worked in a variety of functions and held senior management positions in maintenance, engineering and employee relations.

His work experience with Arco includes:-

  • 12 years operational experience at the Curragh open cut coal mine in various maintenance, engineering and management roles progressing to Manager Maintenance; and

  • extensive involvement in the major restructuring of the Curragh open cut and the Gordonstone underground coal mines.

  • representation as an employee nominated Director of the Arco Coal Australia Superannuation Fund.
     

Peter’s tenure at the Curragh operation included extensive experience in dragline, mobile fleet and preparation plant maintenance as well as involvement in numerous improvement projects, workplace change activities and industrial relations negotiations. Extensive dragline experience was acquired with the Curragh dragline fleet including two Marion 8200 and two Marion 8750 draglines.

 

During the major restructuring of the two Arco coal mining operations, Peter held the positions of Manager Human Resources at each mine and was responsible for implementation of changes to the organisation, managing industrial relations issues, negotiating with various unions and developing human resource strategies. 

During Arco’s sale of the Gordonstone Coal Mine, Peter was an active participant in managing the transition issues associated with the handover of the mine operation. 

Peter has also represented the Atlantic Richfield Company in due diligence processes for numerous major acquisitions including the privatisation of three major Victorian power stations. These activities involved reviewing and reporting on operational, maintenance, industrial relations and human resources areas. 

Assignments with Comino Management Services Pty Ltd have included:

 

  • the review of the organisational and management structure of companies;

  • completing a significant role in a major mining machinery litigation case in the international arena;

  • conducting due diligence reviews of mining operations;

  • managing the resolution of new dragline contractual and technical issues;

  • developing contracts for the relocation of used draglines and the purchase of new draglines;

Stephen Parr

Stephen Parr is a Senior Consultant with Comino Management Services Pty Ltd. Stephen graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from the University of Queensland in 1995 before completing a masters of Projection Management in 2010. Prior to consulting to industry he spent 10 years working in the coal and hard rock mining industries. Stephen has worked in a wide variety of project management roles most recently providing on site project management input to assist a mine transitioning from a contractor run to owner operator basis. His work experience includes:
 

  • development and administration of large construction and equipment supply contracts including new draglines;

  • management of design teams of engineers and draftspersons;

  • development and management of contracts for engineering consultants;

  • on site management and supervision of construction teams and contractors;

  • planning and managing maintenance teams;

  • development of maintenance and capital project budgets; and

  • contract claims resolution and negotiations.

Bruce Beasley

Project Manager

 

Bruce Beasley is a Senior Consultant with Comino Management Services Pty Ltd. He is a qualified tradesperson with extensive maintenance and personnel management experience. Prior to consulting to industry he spent 30 years working in the coal mining industry for mine operators and suppliers. 

Bruce completed 12 years with Fluor Australia and then Utah Development Company erecting and maintaining draglines at Blackwater, Goonyella and Norwich Park Mines in Central Queensland.

During 13 years with Curragh Queensland Mining Ltd, Bruce worked in a number of roles including Senior Maintenance Supervisor – Draglines & Drills, Senior Maintenance Supervisor – Coal Preparation Plant, Project Manager – Marion 8750 Erection and Manager Projects – Coal Plant Upgrades. Extensive dragline experience was acquired with the Curragh dragline fleet including two Marion 8200 and two Marion 8750 draglines.

Since 1994, Bruce has worked with P&H Minepro and ANI/ESCO involved in dragline, drill and shovel support roles.

Assignments with Comino Management Services Pty Ltd have included developing tender documents and contracts for the supply of new and used draglines; inspecting, auditing and providing cost estimates of used draglines for relocation into Australia; completing overhaul inspections; reviewing dragline major overhaul plans and developing capital and operating cost projections for draglines.

Bruce has completed the role as Construction manager for the manufacture and erection of a new 8750 dragline at the Ensham Coal Mine; the project management of two dragline recovery projects, project manager of a used dragline construction and QA and logistics manager for underground equipment procurement project.

Brendan Leciej

Brendan Leciej is a Consultant with Comino Management Services Pty Ltd. He holds a degree in Civil Engineering and Business Administration.

Prior to consulting to industry he spent 9 years working in a number of roles in the civil and mining industry. 

During 5 years with G&S Engineering Services, Brendan worked on a number of dragline projects as Controls Engineer.

His work experience with G&S Engineering Services includes:-

  • estimating, planning, scheduling, cost control, contract management on small and large scale projects;

  • management of critical path schedules with cost and man hour analysis;

  • co-ordinate parts, supply and logistics activities for dragline shutdowns;

  • co-ordinate suppliers and sub-contractors for dragline shutdowns;

Laurie Stemm

Consultant

 

Laurie Stemm is a Consultant with Comino Management Services Pty Ltd. He is a qualified mechanical tradesman with extensive experience on draglines and electric rope shovels.

Prior to consulting to industry he spent 10 years working in a number of roles in the mining industry.

During 6 years with Bucyrus Australia, Laurie worked in a number of fitting, planning, supervisory and technical service roles.

His work experience with Bucyrus Australia includes:-

  • 495B shovel and 39R drill assembly at Freeport West Papua New Guinea;

Shane McKenzie is a Senior Consultant with Comino Management Services Pty Ltd.  He is a qualified boilermaker with extensive engineering background in the energy and mining industry covering broad spectrum from infrastructure builds through to dragline erections and shutdowns as well as engineering works for oil drilling companies.  He soon used this experience to become a project manager for CMSPL as well as G&S Engineering.   
 

Assignment with CMSPL have included:

  • Relocation of a used 1370W dragline from New Mexico USA to Isaac Plains QLD.  

  • Completed a major shutdown on the 8750 dragline at Callide and his engagement at Callide is continuing on fire systems, tub and buckets tenders.

Tony Rasink

Senior Consultant

 

Tony Rasink is a Senior Consultant with Comino Management Services Pty Ltd. He is a qualified Electrical Tradesperson with extensive electrical maintenance and supervisory experience. Prior to consulting to industry he spent 23 years working in the coal mining industry and 8 years in the sugar industry.

Following the completion of his electrical trade training with local power authority, Tony spent 8 years as an electrical maintenance tradesman at Queensland sugar mill. Subsequent to this role, Tony completed a number of construction projects involving electrical distribution and coal preparation plants.

Tony completed 22 years with Curragh Queensland Mining Limited and during this period spent 12 years as Electrical Superintendent and registered Mine Electrician and Mine Electrical Engineering Manager. 

Tony worked in a number of roles at Curragh including Senior Field Electrical Supervisor. In this role, Tony was responsible for the electrical maintenance of:

  • site power reticulation and infrastructure,

  • Letourneau L1400 electric loader,

  • Unit Rig BD270 electric drive coal hauler fleet,

  • fleet of 5 draglines,

  • drills; and

  • coal preparation and handling plant.
     

Extensive dragline experience was acquired with the Curragh Dragline fleet which included:

  • two (2) Marion 8750 draglines

  • two (2) Marion 8200; and

  • one (1) P&H 2355.
     

A important part of the role held at Curragh included managing the site standards and systems for maintaining electrical statutory compliance at the site. 

A period was spent assigned as Electrical Inspector on the construction of the Marion 8750 dragline in 1986. 

Assignments with Comino Management Services Pty Ltd have included the development of tender documents, technical specifications and contract documentation for the supply of new draglines; rope shovels; greenfield coal mine electrical reticulation planning and support; mine accommodation village and infrastructure electrical installations; rope shovel and dragline relocations and major shutdowns.

Tony has been a key participant in the procurement of a new large 8750AC electric walking draglines in the Bowen Basin. Tony provides a practical knowledge of electrical statutory requirements on mine sites.

Kirstine Munro

Senior Consultant

 

Proficient contracts management professional with extensive experience in supply chain processes comprising purchasing procurement and contracts management.  Proven record of managing the full contract lifecycle of high value contracts for major projects across the construction, mining and oil and gas sectors.

Expertise includes managing pre-award activities including but not limited to prequalification of vendors, development and review of technical scope of works, compilation of tender documentation and tender evaluation, negotiating and drafting various forms of contracts through to contract award.  Expertise in managing post-award activities includes change management such as variation works, the review and administration of progress claims, delay claims, extension of time claims, managing project expenditures, vendor performance management and contract close out.

Colin Stepanoff

Colin Stepanoff is a Senior Consultant with Comino Management Services Pty Ltd. He is a qualified electrical fitter and mechanic with extensive experience in supervision and project management.

Colin has worked in numerous project roles most recently managing the site infrastructure design and construction at a greenfield coal mine.

His work experience includes:

  • experience as an electrical leading hand tradesman at the Utah Development Company Blackwater Mine;

  • valuable experience as an electrical maintenance supervisor at the Curragh Mine Blackwater maintaining draglines, drills and the coal preparation plant;

  • Electrical Service and Erection Engineer with Marion Power Shovel working on the 7200 overhaul, the Curragh 8750 erection, the Vickery 7820 erection, Marion shovel overhauls;

  • Field Supervisor for the erection of P&H 4100A shovels in the Bowen Basin and overhaul of P&H 1900 shovels;

  • Project manager for the erection and maintenance of four (4) P&H 4100A shovels at Newmont Mining in Indonesia;

Alex Callaghan

Alex Callaghan has a predominately mining background, with more than eight years’ experience at Hastings Deering in Mining Account Management and Contract/Project Management roles in Queensland.  

Alex has an in-depth knowledge of Caterpillar product and solutions, mining equipment application engineering & a comprehensive understanding of the ‘cost per tonne’ equation enabling him to extract maximum value from HME. Complementing this knowledge is his ability to develop and maintain strong customer relationships built on understanding, trust, communication and results.

 

Complementing his recent experience in mining is broader experience with contract/project management, and business management in the manufacturing industry. Throughout his career Alex has led numerous teams and overseen multiple complex projects, contract negotiations, some M&A activity, and has always had a focus on continuous improvement and safety.

 

Alex holds a Bachelor of Business Management from the University of Queensland with majors in ‘strategic management’ and ‘management of organisations’ and enjoyed a well-balanced senior education at Anglican Church Grammar School.

Juan Beltran

Juan Beltran is a qualified Civil Engineer (RPEQ) with over 11 years of experience. Juan graduated as Civil Engineer and Environmental Engineer from Andes University in Colombia before completing his MBA at the University of Queensland in 2013. Juan moved to Australia in 2008 and since then he has been involved in the investigation, planning, design, management and construction of different infrastructure projects for greenfield and brownfield developments. Projects include: mining (coal), public and private roads, water management structures, processing plants.

 

Over the last 2 years has been providing technical support during the tender and construction phase for different areas of a greenfield project (including earthworks and water management).  The variety of projects Juan has been involved has developed his technical and managerial skills including the understanding of the requirements to deliver a project through its different stages (pre-feasibility, feasibility, detailed design, construction and operation).
